Inquirer

I have a natural thirst for knowledge, especially for the numerous subjects I feel passionate about. So far in the MYP, I’ve received four subject awards for Science, Chinese, Math, and English. This year, I’ve also received an Inquirer award from my Chinese teacher. I can often be seen hanging around classrooms or in teacher’s offices asking questions. I’d consider myself a lifelong learner, as the process of learning brings me great satisfaction. Even during Christmas or summer breaks, I’d be taking online courses without my parents’ instruction. For example, over the summer break before Grade 10, I completed the entire Algebra II and Trigonometry courses on Khan Academy simply because I was passionate about learning more and more. This year, my personal project also showed how I was an inquirer. The project was research based and would amount to 30 pages of research on each organ in the digestive system. In summary, I am constantly seeking for more to learn inside and outside of school.

Balanced

I am able to balance my academics with numerous extracurricular activities.

I have been in the 1st Hong Kong Canadian Scout Group for 10 years now. We host diverse activities every Saturday, including kayaking, hiking, climbing, and camping. Through this weekly training, I have become proficient in many of these activities and received the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, Chief Scout’s Award, and achieved a 3 star certification for kayaking. I deeply enjoy spending my free time outdoors surrounded by nature, especially having fun with friends in wild camps.

I am also dedicated to learning piano. I have practiced consistently for 8 years and recently passed the Grade 8 Piano ABRSM exam. I enjoy expressing myself through music and playing scores and soundtracks from movies, TV shows, and video games.

Lastly, I have been committed to the Insight Newspaper at CDNIS for 2 years. As the graphic designer, I have picked up on skills relating to InDesign and the artistic creativity behind putting together a newspaper.

Caring

My friends often ask me for help in science, maths, and English. Almost every night, we call to discuss possible answers and help each other with our homework. I have always been passionate about helping my school community and creating long-lasting friendships and received the Citizenship Award in 8th grade. This was awarded for being easily approachable and respectful of others.

Through scouting, I have become involved in numerous community service opportunities. Over the past years, I have participated in almost 20 beach/hike cleanups, interacted with less fortunate kids and helped them with tuition, and clean second-hand furniture to be donated to houses in third-world countries.
